Augustus and His Smile

Augustus and His Smile
By Catherine Raynor
“Augustus is a sad tiger.”  He has lost his smile and must travel far and wide to find it.  He visits many places and sees many interesting things along the way.  In the end, he discovers that happiness is anywhere he looks, and there is where he will find his smile.  The illustrations are simple but powerful.  Augustus and His Smile reminds readers that if we can find beauty in the small, simple things in life, we can be happy no matter where we are or what we’re doing.  This picture book is a good story for kids of all ages and can be found in the Easy section under E RAY.

Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed by Mo Willems

http://pigeonpresents.com/data/coverls/pigeon_nakedmolerat_cover_lg.jpgWhat happens when you really like to wear clothes that fit all your different moods but NO ONE else wears clothes? Wilbur is the naked mole rat who loves all his different outfits: fancy, funny, cool, or astronaut. But no one in his naked mole rat community likes that he wears clothes; they think it is yuck! After trying to talk Wilbur out of wearing his clothes his friends take him to Grand-pah," the oldest, greatest and most naked of mole rats ever." Find out what Grand-pah decides about Wilbur wearing all his clothes. As usual, Mo Willems' writing is clever and concise and his illustrations are just hilarious. THE SERPENT’S SHADOW BY RICK RIORDAN

The Serpent’s Shadow
by Rick Riordan
This is an enjoyable wrap-up to a great series about the Kane family.  The relationships between the characters, the Egyptian history that is found throughout, and the adventures are fabulous.  While this installment may seem to lag in the middle, do not worry because it ends with a bang as Sadie, Walt, and the other magicians use their intellect and skills to try and save the world from the chaos serpent Apophis.  This book can be found in the juvenile section under J RIO and is recommended for families with children in 4th grade and above.  Also, try listening to the whole series on CD as narrators Katherine Kellgren and Kevin R. Free do an amazing job.  The CD version can be found in the juvenile section under C J RIO.
