EGGS OVER EVIE by Alison Jackson

Evie Carson is your average 13 year old: She likes hanging out with her best friend, she develops a crush on a boy, and she begins to experience the struggles of “growing up.” With divorced parents and her beloved dog living at her dad’s home, Evie’s salvation from her troubles is cooking. Eggs Over Evie is an appropriate book for a tween girl from a divorced family. Evie is a very relatable character who is charming and funny. And for the young lady who enjoys cooking, author Alison Jackson includes Evie-inspired recipes at the end of each chapter. This book can be found in the Juvenile Fiction section under J JAC.

hello! hello! & Dot.

Put down those devices!  Technology is an important part of our lives, but there is more out there!  Hello! hello! by Matthew Cordell and Dot. by Randi Zuckerberg are both cute children’s books that remind kids that there’s a whole world out there to experience.

In Hello! hello!, a virtually wordless book, a child goes outside to entertain himself when his family won’t tear their attention away from their screens (computer, TV, tablet, etc.).  He brings them each a flower to lure them out of the house, and they discover how much fun they can have with each other.  Hello! hello! can be found in the Easy section under E COR.

Dot is a little girl who is very technologically savvy but eventually gets burnt out.  Her mom forces her outside to “Reboot! Recharge! Restart!” and she learns the physical world can be even more fun than a virtual world.  Dot. can be found in the Easy section under E ZUC.
